Web Wiz Forums System Requirements

Web Wiz Forums System and Client Requirements

Web Wiz Forums is designed for the Windows hosting environment, and has been designed to work with a variety of different server settings and locales.

Please check with your web hosting company or server admin that your web hosting account meets those requirements listed below.

Server Requirements

Web Wiz Forums has been extensively tested to run with any of the operating systems listed below using the Windows IIS web server with ASP enabled.

Windows Server 2008 with IIS 7
Windows Server 2003 with IIS 6
Windows 2000 with IIS 5
Windows XP Pro with IIS 5.1
Windows Vista with IIS 7

Database Backend

Please ensure that the version of Web Wiz Forums you are running meets the database requirements below.

Microsoft SQL Server version

SQL Server 2008 (all versions including Web Edition and the free Express Edition)
SQL Server 2005 (all versions including the free Express Edition)
SQL Server 2000
TCP/IP connections to the SQL Server must be enabled
Microsoft's MDAC 2.6+ drivers need to be installed on the web server.

mySQL version

mySQL 4.1+ or above
mySQL 5+ or above
myODBC 3.51 or myODBC 5.1 Drivers

Microsoft Access Version (not supported in production environments)

Microsoft's MDAC 2.6+ drivers need to be installed on the web server.

Please note: If running on Windows Server 2008 x64 then you will need to 'Enable 32-Bit Applications' in the website's Application Pool to run the Access, due to there not being 64-bit database drivers available for Access databases at the present time.

Server Requirements for Email Features

One of the following email components needs to be installed on the web server in order to use the email features of Web Wiz Forums.

CDOSYS
Part of the Windows 2000, Windows XP Pro, and Windows Server 2003, operating systems. An SMTP server is also required.
CDONTS
Part of the Windows 2000 operating system's, but can be installed on Windows XP Pro and Windows Server 2003. The SMTP server that ships with MS IIS also needs to be installed.
W3 JMail
Available for most supported operating systems, also requires an SMTP server.
Persits AspEmail
Available for most supported operating systems, also requires an SMTP server.
ServerObjects AspMail
Available for most supported operating systems, also requires an SMTP server.

Server Requirements for Upload Features

One of the following upload components needs to be installed on the web server to use the upload features of Web Wiz Forums (Premium Edition).

Persits AspUpload 3.x (required for additional Upload Progress Bar and large file uploads)
Persits AspUpload 2+
Dundas Upload 2+
SoftArtisans FileUp 3.2+
aspSmartUpload
AspSimpleUpload

Server Requirements Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) URL Rewriting

Web Wiz Forums has the ability to rewrite URL's for pages that are indexed by search engines. This improves search engine indexing by rewriting the URL include page subjects as part of the file name. One of the following is required to be installed on the web server in order for this feature to be available.

Helicon Tech ISAPI_Rewrite 3 Full
Microsoft URL Rewrite Module for IIS 7.0

Client Side Requirements

To use Web Wiz Forums the client needs to be running one of the following browsers (other browsers may be supported but are not tested).

Internet Explorer 4+
Firefox
Netscape 4+
Mozilla
Opera 4+
Safari

To use the Rich Text Editor (WYSIWYG) to write posts, one of the following JavaScript enabled browsers is required.

Internet Explorer 5+ (windows only)
Firefox 1+
Netscape 7.1+
Mozilla 1.3+
Opera 9+

Premium Edition Server/Hosting Requirements

To use Web Wiz Forums Premium Edition certain features need to be supported by your web host. These are very similar to requirements for PayPal IPN when using ASP. Please make sure your web host supports the requirements below:

Microsoft XMLHTTP Object (Microsoft.XMLHTTP)
Outbound HTTP Connections on TCP/IP Port 80 (not through a proxy server)

A 'Premium Edition Requirements Test' button is available in the Web Wiz Forums Admin Control Panel on the Premium Edition Upgrade page. Before you make your purchase, use this button to test that the servers of your web host can support the Premium Edition. You can also view our list of Unsupported Web Hosts.

No refunds can be given for unsupported servers as every effort has been made for you to verify that you are using a supporting web host before you make your purchase*.
